The organizers of 2008 Channel O awards were shocked when the “Best African West” category award was won by M-trill, other nominees in this category for this award were D’banj, Ikechukwu, Faze and Becca from Ghana, thus making M-trill the first African to win the channel O award without an album released (he was nominated based on his first single ‘Bounce’).

Since the first air play of his debut single “Bounce”, we knew we would never be safe from the mastery that M-Trill possesses. The song “Bounce” burned up the radio and charts in the south-south region of Nigeria, being number one on Cosmos Fm in Enugu for weeks on end and being the most played Naija song on Rhythm 93.7 Fm in Port Harcourt all in 2005. This earned him more than just the usual accolades that accompany that kind of success and before long pirates couldn’t keep their hands off the club friendly jam.

M.trill (M meaning mayjah, pronounced major) was born on the 18th of May in Lagos. The fifth of all his siblings, he was christened “Teria” Yarhere. He did his primary schooling at Air Force Primary School, Ikeja in Lagos. He also did his Secondary education at Federal Government College Warri, Delta state and later Federal Government College Odogbolu, Ogun state where he finished up. His tertiary education was done at the University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State where he studied Geology. He graduated in 2004 and immediately sought a career in music with record deals at his disposal.

Tonye Ibiama also known as “Big T” the CEO of Grafton Entertainment, who runs a record label both in the U.K and Nigeria signed M.trill in 2005 for an international deal which is to see M.trill release albums for the Nigerian and U.K market.

M.trill is also under the Rouge Management stables who have had success with the likes of 2face Idibia and Weird Mc to name a few.  Apart from the usual being on the charts (recently, his song “where u dey” has been on the charts on Radio stations in Ghana). His debut album “Number 1” was launched on the 18th of October 2008 at the Hotel Presidential in Port-Harcourt and it features acts like Ruggedman, Timaya, 2-Shot, Sho-boi, Frank Dnero. The Album “Number 1” has been receiving massive airplay in all the major radio stations and has been on several top chart shows.

M.trill has performed on stages with the likes of Beenieman, Akon, Junior Reid and a number of Nigerian stars like 2face Idibia, Modenine, 9ice, Nigga raw, Rugged man, 2shot ,Kc presh in Lagos, London, Port-Harcourt, Enugu, Asaba and Abuja.

Apart from, being the hottest rap artist in Port-Harcourt. M.trill has got such good “school boy” looks that have the girls constantly on his case. Armed with a humble nature and a very strong Christian background, M.trill has an in-depth knowledge of hip-hop that he believes gives him an edge. He has been likened to be a cross between rappers, Mase and Kanye West, though he feels that it is wrong to compare him with other rappers, believing every man is his own king.

He has performed at different events and his new video ‘Beautiful’ is currently receiving massive air play around Nigeria, Ghana and other West African countries and is climbing on all the charts.

Early this year, M.trill was named as one of the hot acts to watch out for by Punch Newspapers- the most widely-circulated daily in his native country Nigeria.

These days, M.trill is busy shuffling between carving a niche for himself, performing at concerts and recording a different kind of music.
